Employee work pressure and employee turnover

Job stress or work pressure can be identified as detrimental physical as well as emotional responses when there is a discrepancy between capabilities of the employees and the job scope. In contemporary business context, most of the employees tend to be pressurized regarding the job due to several reasons such as higher load of work responsibilities, lack of work life balance, lack of capabilities of the employees, highly volatile business scenarios and customer requirements creating frequent changes in the job activities and so on would create work pressure for the employees (Chathuni Jayasinghe & M.V.S.Mendis, 2017).

Therefore, it can be identified that employee work pressure would arise from below perspectives

Pay scheme related work pressure

Work pressure would arise due to the lack of pay scheme and other incentives for the employees. There are instances where employees are given lower salary than the industry rates and the lack of possibility of fulfilling their needs using current salary scheme would create pressures on the employees.

Career progression related work pressure

When there is no proper career progression plan for the employees, they tend to be stagnant in the company without any clear direction for the employee succession. Therefore, work pressure would build within the employees’ mind due to the lack of opportunities available for employees(15minutes4me.com, 2021).

Supervisor related work pressure

When there are conflicts between supervisors as well as subordinates for numerous reasons, work pressure would build up.

Work life balance pressure

When there is lack of opportunity for employees to maintain a proper balance between work life as well as the personal life, there is a pressure build up.

It is identified that the employee turnover would go up when there is a higher pressure for the employees since it drastically reduces the quality of work, efficiency as well as the effectiveness of the work. Therefore, it is required to manage work pressure properly of the employees where the establishment of proper career progression planning for employees needs to be considered. Moreover, assessment of job description of the employees and undertaking of appropriate job redesigning within the organization to ensure that job duties are segregated equally among employees in a way that proper work life balance is maintained (Lakshani & Weerasinghe, 2021).
