Application of Kotter’s Eight Stage Model for change management process



Change management process is a systematic implementation of change within an organization. With the continuous changes in the technology, competitive pressures, globalization and so on change needs to be adopted to the organization to ensure gaining higher competitive advantage as well as business sustainability (Mary R. C. Haas,, et al., 2020).

Therefore, Kotter’s Eight Stage Model highlighted the significance of the change management and adopting a systematic approach in adopting change management process effectively. Therefore, it is vital to follow below process in order to ensure that the change management is undertaken effectively(Pawar & Charak, 2017)(Pollack & Pollack, 2015).

Establish a sense of urgency

People must understand and accept the need for change where it is required it is required to provide an initial understanding regarding the requirement for adopting the change within the organization.

Create a guiding coalition

It is required to assemble a team of change champions to lead others in order to undertake and coordinate the change process where an appointment of a separate project team is vital.

Develop a vision and strategy

It is required to identify the vision and objectives of the changes while formulating appropriate strategies and implementation plan in order to ensure that the entire process has a clear direction regarding the change.

Communicate the vision

Arrangement of effective communication of vision of the organization among employees is significant to get their fullest contribution

Empower actions

Employees needs to be empowered and encouraged to drive the change process while providing targets for them to ensure proper alignment of objectives to the action plan.

Generate short-term wins

It is vital to celebrate short term achievements to motivate the project team and the employees regarding new change being adopted.

Consolidate gains

Continuation of the momentum is significant to ensure the entire plan is properly implemented without any deviations.

Anchor new approach in the culture

It should be ensured that the employees are properly adopted to the new culture with the adopted change.
